Weekly Activities
Welcome to our activity archive! Every Wednesday, I post one easy, creative activity for families to try. Each activity must be simple enough to actually do, but special enough to make a memory. Most of these use supplies we already have on hand, they are low or no prep, and they’re meant to bring us together and keep those eyeballs off the screens for a bit. Scroll by month to see what we’ve done so far and/or what we are planning next!
I'm calling it "What should we do this weekend?" Wednesdays and it starts December 10, 2025.
December 2025
Shrinky Dink Ornaments - I've had the plastic for a while but have been dragging my feet for some reason to actually get it out and use it! It is time, and although I'm a 90's kid I must admit this will be THE FIRST TIME I'VE EVER DONE SHRINKY DINKS, so I'm probably more excited than the kids. One thing I want to make sure my boys write down is their name so I can have the way they write it preserved!
Gingerbread Salt Dough Ornaments - I think it would be lovely if we could get a gingerbread scent in there as well, but the priority is just to have the end result be a cute gingerbread salt dough ornament with my boys' faces as the gingerbread faces. Not gonna lie, I'm gonna be bummed if this one doesn't work out!
Hot Cocoa Puffy Paint Art - More gingerbread haha! This is just a puffy paint recipe with cocoa mixed in and since it will be brown I'll be painting and decorating a puffy paint gingerbread man. Who knows what ding and dong will end up doing though, they never follow my suggestions lol.
Holiday STEM: Marshmallow & Toothpick Engineering - I originally had this as the 3rd activity for December instead of the 4th, but decided the hot cocoa puffy paint was more appropriate for Christmas Eve and this is just a generic winter activity. I am going to *suggest* they make an igloo out of their materials, but again, who knows what they'll end up doing.
January 2026
Black Glue Winter Art - I don't know if you've tried art with black glue but its a favorite over here. Just put some black paint in the glue and use it to make shapes (snowflakes?) on your paper. Let it dry, then color it in with watercolors! The result is so good.
Frozen Bubbles - We actually live in a place that gets a winter now, so no better time than to try to freeze bubbles. Maybe we can add watercolor paint to the bubbles and try to catch them on paper.
Salt & Watercolor "Ice" Painting - I've never done this but I think you use a salt water mixture to paint with on dark paper and then you can see salt crystals form as it dries? Then it looks icy once the crystals form, hence the name. A little science, a little art.
Frozen Bowling with Solo Cups - Freeze water balloons for your bowling “balls” and try knocking over stacked red solo cups! This sounds like it will be an epic snowy day activity if it works.
February 2026
Salt Painted Hearts - Not to be confused with salt and watercolor "ice" painting! For this one we are breaking out the glue again and making hearts on a piece of watercolor paper. Cover it with salt before it dries, then shake off the excess and allow the glue to dry. When you paint with watercolors on the salt it absorbs it in such a mesmerizing way.
Fizzy Valentine Hearts - Classic baking soda and vinegar experiment with frozen baking soda cubes (shaped as hearts), but I'm going to try to hide something in the hearts I think? Whether that's a hidden color or an object I do not know.
Secret Messages - Write invisible love notes with lemon juice, then reveal them with heat! I've never tried this so I might get the supplies for another hidden message activity using baking soda and grape juice as a backup.
Candy Heart Catapults - All you need is popsicle sticks and rubber bands plus a bottle cap to make these easy (hopefully!) candy catapults. I think it would be fun to try to launch them at targets.
March 2026
Leprechaun Lava Lamp - Quick science experiment using oil, water, and fizzing tablets.
Walking Water Rainbow Experiment - Use markers to draw a rainbow on each end of a paper towel then put each end in a cup of water. Watch colored water “walk” between cups and blend to form a rainbow. Great for color mixing & observation.
Chia Seed Rock Pets - Where are my Kwik Stix paint sticks when I need them?! They are perfect for drawing on rocks, then we will paint a chia seed mixture on top that will grow to become our pet rocks' hair.
Bubble Snakes - Use a recycled bottle and washcloth to blow long, foamy bubble snakes. Add food coloring for rainbow effects! My only concern with this one is inhaling the bubbles, but I'm thinking it should be okay since my boys are old enough to understand. Will keep you updated on that.
Well that about covers quarter one of 2026 so check back later and I'll have the rest of the year's activities up! Thanks for being here with us, I'm so excited to share each and every one!
